TWOAT is delighted to report that John Allinson has been awarded an MBE for his “Services to Tadworth & Walton Overseas Aid Trust”. In fact John was one of the original founders and the first chair of the charity in 1982. Since then TWOAT has raised over £408,000 and supported several hundred projects in the developing world. John has continued his involvement with the charity and served on its committee and as a Trustee for 35 years and is currently Deputy-Chair. Having achieved his 80th birthday some years ago, he recently announced that this year’s two 10-mile sponsored walks would be the last of the long series that he has organised and led on behalf of the charity. Typically being John, he has already found two able successors to continue the walks. John’s involvement has not just been on the fund raising side as he has been the main point of contact for many of the projects supported by TWOAT. In fact he has played a vital role in identifying suitable overseas projects for TWOAT to support including schools, orphanages and agricultural developments that have some specific link to our local area. TWOAT are also delighted to report that another TWOAT Trustee, Professor Haro Bedelian, has been awarded a CBE in the same Birthday Honours’ List – his award was for services to engineering and international trade.
The main events for TWOAT later this year are the annual Spit Roast in Walton on September 10th and the Ladies’ Autumn Fashion Show in the Riddell Hall, doors open at 7pm on September 28th and the Annual Social Meeting in St John’s Hall on Saturday October 21st.
