The Children’s Trust
The Children’s Trust is the UK’s leading charity for children with brain injury and neurodisability. Every year the charity supports thousands of children and their families across the country.
Tadworth is home to the charity’s national rehabilitation centre. Here expert nurses, carers and therapists ensure each child has the opportunity to live the best life possible.
The Children’s Trust also runs brain injury services at Nottingham, Leeds, Sheffield and St George’s Hospitals and the Brain Injury Hub, a nationwide information website for parents.
Our Role
Our charity, The Friends of the Children’s Trust at Tadworth Court*, raises funds specifically to enhance the lives of the children at The Children’s Trust.
Our aim is to spread awareness of the crucial work of The Children’s Trust and to raise money from the many events that we run or support. Funds we have raised in recent years have paid for a special vehicle to transport the children on medical and social trips, 8 specialised beds, a trampoline for therapy and exercise, music therapy equipment, a Maze for the children in the Tadworth Court grounds and a complete programme of play and leisure activities.
We have funded educational visits and our special treat for the children is paying for their Christmas gifts and celebrations and for their annual summer outings. And we have given support to The Sir Brian Hill Volunteer Programme, to recruit and train Trust volunteers.
Planning for the Future
In 2019/20, we raised nearly £13,000 but sadly this year many of our events and activities were curtailed due to Covid 19 which in turn has impacted heavily upon our ability to ‘make a difference’ for these children.
However, we were delighted that one of our Friends was able to hold an Open Garden Day in April – with a little technological assistance – which was a great success. Visitors were able to take a ‘virtual tour’ of this beautiful Tadworth garden resplendent with Spring blossom and bulbs to the sound of birdsong.
Inspired by this, our innovative Trustees are busy planning a series of events starting again in January 2021 – some virtual and others not – with the aim of generating vital funds again so that we can continue to provide ‘the icing on the cake’ for these children for a long while to come.
