News from the KRA
The KRA wants to make you aware of a potential threat to the character of our village which could have far-reaching effects for us all.
For the past nine years, developers have been trying to demolish one of the most characterful houses in the area – Fairlawn, in The Glade – and redevelop it. They have tried on several occasions to get planning permission and have been turned down every time. Their latest scheme, for a block of seven flats, was again turned down by Reigate and Banstead Borough Council, but the developers have now appealed to the government’s Planning Inspectorate to overturn that decision.
Fairlawn is in a Rural Area of Special Character, designed to protect the arcadian environment of our village. Allowing the development of blocks of flats would clearly destroy that character forever.
A powerful lobby group of local residents have, with the strong support of the KRA, so far successfully resisted all the developer’s plans and are continuing to do so. Now a deadline of October 17 has been set for written submissions to the Planning Inspectorate.
We strongly believe that this development could have huge implications not just for The Glade, but across the whole village.
For that reason, we have included on the Planning page of this website www.kingswoodvillage.org/kingswood-residents-association/kingswood-planning/ a copy of a detailed explanation from local campaigners of why this development should not be allowed to go ahead, as well as the KRA’s own written objection.
Please take the time to read these and, if you support our case, submit your own objection as soon as possible.
Details of how to do this are included in the campaigners’ letter.

And remember, time is running out. You only have until October 17 to submit a written objection.
