TWOAT News – March 2022

News from Tadworth & Walton Overseas Aid Trust

We were approached by a charity called SOS Children’s Villages whose work, caring for orphans and foster children in Eastern Europe, we had previously supported. They actually operate in many poorer communities across the world. They told us that they are having to relocate many children they had been supporting in Ukraine to move them outside the war zone. As a different project of ours in India had to close down after it was disrupted by COVID, we decided to send the £1,000 earmarked for them to be used to assist Ukrainian children instead.

Our Online Auction of generously donated offerings from local providers of Health, Fitness and Wellbeing Services has been completed and we raised enough money to provide a month’s worth of school lunches at the Mothers’ Union School we support in Madagascar. We would like to thank those local businesses that generously donated offers of services to us.

We are hoping to have a presentation via Zoom for our supporters concerning one of our African projects on Thursday April 7th at 7.30 pm. Please contact Mike Fox if you would like an invitation to participate.

We will be holding our Annual Street Collection during the mornings of 8th and 9th of April on street corners in Tadworth, Walton and Kingswood.

Keith & Elizabeth Lewis have kindly offered to open their garden at 41 Shelvers Way in aid of TWOAT during the afternoon of Sunday April 24th and Derek Parsons has kindly offered to open his at Meon House in Meon Close Tadworth on Monday May 2nd. Admission will be £5 from 2pm in both cases and teas will be available.

We hope to run our usual bottle tombola at the Walton May Fayre on Saturday May 21st please contact Mike Fox if you are able to donate a bottle – anything from bath salts to brandy!

The dates for our two John Allinson Memorial Sponsored Walks have been set as Friday June 10th and Saturday June 18th – they will both start from Headley.

Keep well
