Government Consulting Widely on Local Government Re-Organisation in Surrey

Dear KRA Members,

As you may be aware, the government is currently consulting on the future structure of local government in Surrey.

Surrey County Council has recently distributed a leaflet to all households outlining its preferred model, which proposes a two-authority solution. While this provides insight into the County Council’s perspective, it is important to note that this reflects only Surrey County Council’s position.

An alternative proposal, put forward by a group of local boroughs, including Reigate and Banstead advocates for a three-way split of the county. This model may offer a more locally responsive and balanced structure and deserves equal consideration.

We encourage all members to visit the Surrey Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) website to understand the relative merits of both proposals. The site contains detailed information, comparisons, and links to relevant documents.

You are also able to submit your views as part of the ongoing public consultation.

Closing date for response is the 5th August 2025
